Positive side of the tender on the starter wouldn't hurt it. If it still didn't turn over when you jumped the solenoid, but did turn over when you put the positive lead of the tender on the starter then there must be a bad connection between the battery and starter or the battery could be bad.

Almost sounds like a ground prob from the bat. Check the ground to the frame.

hey guys...just wanted to let u know that my problem is solved....the bolt that sticks out of the starter that goes to the positive on the battery came loose.......i cranked er down and she started right up....man that was a headache because that was the second time i went through all the connections and grounds to make sure they were tight....this one had to be extra tight....so just for giggles i would check this bolt periodically....thanks for everyones thoughts...
