I'm going to check out the flywheel first thing in the morning. Didn't have time today. I'm hopeing that is the problem. Does any body know how much a new flywheel cost and where i can get one if needed (ATK?). And what is the torque spec on the flywheel nut? I checked all my manuals and it wasn't listed unless i overlooked it. Thanks for everybodys help so far.

I got the flywheel off this morning and it's toast! The outer ring on the inside is pretty much gone.

What? You mean it is actually damaged? Woh, can you take a pic? Is your stator or crank damaged at all or just the flywheel?

Yeah, half of the outer ring on the inside was gone! It was pretty much ground up into powder. The stator and crank seem fine but i haven't cleaned it up real good yet. Would electric motor cleaner be good to get all that crap out of their with? Ordered my new fywheel today from ATK $121.00, not to bad. Does anybody know the torque spec on the flywheel nut? Thanks again for everybodys help!
Hey Jaspman, i see your from Cincinnatti. I'm only about a half hour away from their maybe we could hook up some time and ride. I'm the only one around here close that owns a Cannondale.

As long as you have your flywheel off go and take a close look at the end of the crank. Take a long screwdriver and see if you can make the crank move up and down. You dont need to pry very hard. If it moves you have a right side main bearing failure. If your flywheel is messed up on the stator it point directly to this problem.

That would be great. I have to assume you live close to Haspin?

you can turn the engine over with the flywheel off and if the bearing is bad you can see the end of the crank flop up and down. ive been down that road too:drink: :drink: :drink:

 Well it looks like it's time for the ATK 450 update! The crank moves up and down about 1/4". Thanks for the heads up on that. If you guys wouldn't have said anything i prob woulda just wasted another flywheel. What really sucks is my Lt 500just broke down too. Third gear is out of it now. It rains it pours i guess. Looks like i got plenty to work on this winter. Thanks again for everbodys help.

Just because that bearing is bad doesn't mean you have to change everything out. You do have to disassemble to motor to get that bearing out but you can do it, I have faith in ya. Total cost ... less than 100 bucks
