The dealer must have missread Wisetech's post or figured if silicone on the side cover made the engine quieter, then siliconeing everything would be even quieter.

It worked, I'll bet it was quieter than Wisetech's engine.

I knew a guy who was tring to build a drag car. He used a whole pint can of permatex (the black tar like selant of the old days) to assemble a 440 Mopar. I don't think it even ran for an hour.

Looks like someone just didn't want to get a gasket kit so they went haywire with the silicone. Sheesh.

how much for the piston and sleeve?

I was told that the NOS system had not been fully functional yet, but yes he was planning on shooting it. My delima now: He is very sickened by that fact he just spent 3g for nothing, and needs to spend another 3g now. He wants to throw in the towel and buy a yamaha. If he can recover any money from the last crook who rebuilt it, I may convince him to keep the dale. I'm thinking Falicon "short" rod, JE standard piston=low compression for NOS. :head:

What recourse can he get from the dealership that did the work?

I'm sure that anyone can see that it was put together poorly. Usally you only find that much silicon on small block Chevys.

Not sure, but at least he paid with a credit card, so guess he could cancel the payment. He said he may have to take them to small claims court- hence the pictures. I have a disc full of pictures on this engine. Silicon in oil passages, bolts loose, etc. etc.
As for the dealership, if they had any pride at all, this shouldn't be an issue.
