Because a round bearing needs a round hole to go in. If hole isnt round it squishes the bearing causing it to fail. If you cut a donut in half then take a small bite off the ends it can never be a round donut again. Same with caps. Unless you bore them round again.

With gears and seals off cams like when you do cam timing if you put the lobe up on cam it should fall over by its own weight. If good bearings and cams fall like that you won't have any problems with the bearings.

Yes thats one way of changing the timing. Move the cam gears. When they are off that's when I check the bearings.

Different pistons, different maps, different timing. Same reason a Timbo motor today will probably beat a Timbo motor put together 4 years ago. Just too many variables. That's why I was saying it would be cool to see it on high speed film or some crap like you see on mythbusters all the time.

True. Is always a good idea to go back and try old mods again in new configuration. Just like we need to try old '02 exhaust again.

Anyone know who makes this piston?

has two ring galleys but three rings???? the oil ring of course and then a thick and a thinner ring.

What you are looking at for the ring is a called a gapless ring.
