I have seen a few castiron liners with incorrect groove depths.Never saw a defective aluminum one but I bet they are out there. Some 98mm sleeves have different sizes I believe.Anyway if your liner uses stock x-ring and o-ring this is sizes. All are in inch.

Have you found the differences enough to cause sealing issues?

If groove depth is incorrect it cracks the liner.

Easy E the castones that crack the groove is too shallow.Usually there is about a +.003-.000 tolerance on depth of o-ring groove. If it is too shallow o-ring doesnt have any where to squeeze to when headbolts are torqued.Cracks liner.Good indicator of a shallow one is it wont have radius on thee top corners of groove.
