My dealer has had my engine for 3 weeks now and is telling me that the sleeve/piston/rings kit is backordered from cannondale. Do any of you dealers happen to have one sitting around? They also found that my exhaust valves were bad and they are backordered too. arrrggghhh.
I'm wanting to make the 12/1 MidSouth race at monterey. but that window is closing fast i'm afraid.
thanks!

Yep, like guy said. 260 hours plus a leak in the airbox that went unnoticed for too long maybe. She was smokin, but not real bad. I just want to make her fresh again and that looks like a good call. I bought it 10/01 and NEVER fouled a plug or was left walking. I don't want to get an 03 so this is the next best thing. What an awesome ride.

The top and bottom of the airbox, behind the air filter are joined with a foam rubber gasket. Mine was broken in several pieces and evidence of leakage was obvious. yea, it is something to watch.

I think we still have another one. We put the one in the Moto. Ryan, I recommend getting the new sidecase now also. And they updated a oil pump, suppose to flow more. I'll check tonight and get back to ya.

thanks jim

the piston kit came in yesterday but not the new valves.
do you mean the left side engine cover? what would be the benefit besides looks. The paint came off mine a long time ago and does look like crap.
The new oil pump is very interesting. Appreciate any further info as my dealer is one who pretty much only does what you tell em to, not what you really need him to.

I dont know about the sidecover or the pump but I for sure would replace the valvecover the corrosion behind the waterpump is really bad I had a full year on mine using spectro premixed coolant I feel another month and some of the corrosion would have eaten right through the cover and contaminated the oil.The cover is made of magnesium the first generation motors were aluminum now they have a black coating on them so maybe that will take care of problem.Ryanstones I think you have first gen motor because of your serial number.Could you do me a favor and compare the old piston with the new one.I believe the new one is dished more on top?I think when they switched pistons we lost compression.I would like to get ahold of a old piston and sleeve. If possible could you take some pictures and post them.

I just spoke with my mechanic about the waterpump cover corrosion and he had it in hand and found NO corrosion. hmmm. Said running tap water would have been a possible cause. I have always used distilled, maybe that's the diff.

I think the first motor used aluminum valvecover there wouldnt be corrosion on that since the head on mine looked brand new behind the waterpump just the half of the valvecover was corroded not the waterpump that is like new valvecover is magnesium.I used spectro premixed coolant never any water. If you have the goldsidecover, manualclutch and the 500ecm yours is first gen motor.

Hey guys, new to your sight, been racing a cannondale all year. FDO Racing in Ohio (740) 967-1078 made me a "gapless" ring which made a big improvement, really helps on low end and a little on top. No mapping changes either, makes a stock Moto map feel like Blaze on bottom end.
