I'll be getting my crank back from Tim here soon, and had a few questions. How to measure side to side play of the crank. Which way the dimple on the sleeve should face ?

Side play on the crank is measured with a dial indicator off one end of the crank. You then pry or slide the crank from the other end and record the difference. Shims are used under the bearing races to tighten up the gap.

The sleeve dimple was designed to mark the exhaust port. It can be installed any way you want.
