Bad motor noise that is getting louder

#1 Post by Lcenter »

Out riding at sand lake this last weekend then towards the end of the weekend the motor started sounding louder. It was like the noise it always made but it just started getting louder and it was like double the regular motor noise. once i notice i stop riding it except to load it up. It still starts fine. I would like any help i get on this one, if it has happen to somebody else. Thanks

its an 02 bought in may. Motor was replaced in fall of 02 because of crack in front motor mount which leaked oil. it was reprogramed to a moto in i think in late 02 or early 03

cartridge plate bolts backed out, maybe probably?

Hopefully there won't be too much damage if that's it.

I was thinking a crank bearing since it starts and idles fine but is running rough and making that loud noise. That's why I asked about the time frame.

What updates done?

No updates done at all unless something was done by dealer at time of motor replacement

Hope for a cartridge plate backout.

Time to pull the motor.

Pull off your clutch cover and see if you cracked your timing chain guide closest to clutch basket, and look to see if your bolts are backing out behind the clutch basket. If not probably a crank going.
