sprockets

#1 Post by housercdale »

Im looking for 14/40 sprockets. I heard the front is a KTM 400, is this true? If so does year matter? And is the rear the same as a 400ex? Thanks for the help.

The KTM sprocket will work yes, but there is a slight difference. I had mine machined off after loosing the nut. The sprocket is a little thicker and the retaining ring just barely fits on the shaft splines. Be careful when tightening and you shouldn't have a problem. I rode for 6 months with no problem, then let someone borrow my sprocket nut for a race and when he put it back on, it came off on me the next ride.
Rear sprocket is the same as the Honda yes.

I bought a rear sprocket for a honda and the allens dont set in far enough to clear the swing-arm bearing carrier. Anyone had this problem?

No I haven't had that problem. I used a rear sprocket from my 250R with no problems.

Is there a difference between 250R and 400ex?

I'm running the 14/40 combo. Got the 14 from Rocky Mountain ATV, fits like a glove, and also a Honda rear with no problems.

flip the sprocket around, you have the nuts and bolts on wrong sides..i did the same thing:o or also when my bearing carrier was shot my sprocket went over a little bit and rubbed against the swingarm..could also be your cause..ive used 250R/400ex rear sprockets the entire time on my quad..and i have 3 different rear combo's..wink.gif
