Head leaking coolant?

I have developed a coolant between my head and the block. I think it is leaking near the front head bolt, on the right side of engine. It is wet between the front and rear head bolts. It is just seeping a small amont of coolant. Is this a sighn of an impending catastrophic event or just a minor leak that a small bead of sealer what resolve?

Are you running Evans or Engine Ice coolant? If not you need to pull your water pump cover and check for corrosion. Regular coolant eats up the cam cover. And i mean "eats", it will eat holes right through the cam cover.

I had just switched to Evans a few weeks ago. I purchased it used so don't know to much about it's history. Would cam cover corrosion cause a leak between the head and the block?

Depending on the extent of the corrosion, it could cause the seal to fail where the water pump cover meets the cam cover, allowing coolant to travel along the seam in the head and the block. I changed to Evans within the first month of ownership of my quads and the amount of damage was extensive. These are corroding even as they sit in the crates from the factory. My cam covers were even powdercoated to help eliminate this problem. You can remove your waterpump cover w/o dropping the motor, but it takes some patience.

If this is the problem (cam cover corrosion), is it safe to ride or does it require immediate attention? Cam cover replacement?

If it is corroded that bad, it will eventually eat all the way through and your coolant will start mixing with your motor oil..................not a good thing. I think Maz is getting some aluminum cam covers in at cdaleparts.com, or possible ATK.

I would say could just be a gasket. When you pull her down for the winter. Pull the impeller cover and also check the head gasket too. I had one with a similar leak along time ago. Just turned out to be a bad gasket. Otherwise nothing catastrophic. Just some wrenching and some gaskets,

My moto had a coolant leak at the rear of the cyllinder headand the block when I bought it. The outer skinny oring had just gotten hard and dried up. No big deal but the head has to come off to replace.

Oh good, I've been wanting to pull my motor. Then I'll be a real Dale owner!
