I've seen quite a few people funning 14/38 gearing lately. How close does this feel to the factory 13/42. Around here I could get 38t 400ex sprockets a lot quicker than waiting on a 42.

id say you need a pretty healthy motor to pull a 14/38 strong. im runnin 14/42 and to me there is a pretty big difference between it and stock. My bike pulls almost as hard but seems like i have alot more gear now. I dont think i would run 14/38 personally, id loose too much acceloration

Im sure you would have no problem with 13/38 though. If you like to ride up and down the street at very high speeds id go 14/38.

I tried running 14/39 with 18 inch tires. I really didn't like it. It felt good but I really noticed a difference in acceleration when I pulled up beside the 450's. Now I run 14/42 with 18 inch tires and I love it. I have a stock motor.

I tried 14/39 and I think it works well when the situation calls for it, but I have to say that 14/40 is my favorite all around gearing. I use it for MX and have zero compaints at all!
