not as good as i thought (drag racing)

#1 Post by 440speedrider »

I had the post earlyer about me draging the 450s, well i havnt got to race them yet, so earlyer today i went riding with a kfx 400 and a modded raptor, it has some carb work done, full yoshi, air box, k and n and i think thats it, well we raced, he got me bad off the hole and i finaly caught him and beat him by about 1 1/2 bikes, i also hit the rev limiter in every gear but forth, should i beat hime worse, and how do i work on a hole shot, i thought i was half way decent, but i guess not, also i have a 2mm stroker crank, 450 kit, reangled injectors, and some head work, so just kinda lookin for some pointers and if you guys think i should have beet him worse or what, i really need to work on my shifting and my launching!! thanks guys, ill keep ya posted on the progress!

One thing that really matters is feathering the clutch and getting the idea that the start is the most important part of a drag race.

So much emphasis is put on the hp, but a good launch can overcome alot. Also weight is a huge robber of hp.

yeah i understand how important weight and the hole shot is, i really need to work on the hole shot, im a pretty big boy so losing a few lbs wouldnt hurt, thanks for all the help, so should I have beat him worse then i did?

Oh definitely! I have beaten people before that weighed about 50 lbs less than me, but I launch pretty good too.

I had the 450 kit with mine! No special crank stuff though.

One trick for clutch performance.....Line up.......rev the motor and slowly let the clutch out. You will feel it start to grab hold it there. As long as the quad is not moving. This way when you go there is no delay to the launch. The other thing higher gear starts require more revs than 1st gear starts.

all these point are good, but you want to move your weight back as soon as you are moving and feel you won't pull the front wheel up to get as much weight on the rear tires to get traction.

I had no problem staying with a Yz426f in a drag race a couple weekends ago. You just gotta get a GOOD launch:) .
