screwed
Check all fuel connections for tight clamps and no leaks. Check that you have good return flow to the tank when the pump is running. If you don't it could be the o-rings in the fuel disconnectsCheck every electrical connection that you can find it could be something making an intermittent contact also check your ground connections one is under one of the LH headlight bracket bolts and the other is under one of the fuel pressure regulator bolts on the right hand side of the frame just behind the radiator. When you have it running check that it is charging if it is not and you charge the battery but then run it down some trying to start it by the time you ride it a little it could be falling low enough to make it die.You should have around 13 volts in a fully charged battery, whatever it is when you start the engine the voltage should rise, but not a lot at idle, after 1/3-1/2 throttle or so it should go up to around 14-14.5.

Posting at same time as R.Porter above, for sure so simple, and commonly the fuel fittings... or just the clogged fuel filter, when it runs for short while and stalls again. I can help with the fuel fittings set, just email what style of tank you have -- is suction line coming from rear? or front left?
ps. Beware unfamiliar mechanics working on your 'dale!!!

it probably doesn't need a new battery. Check your voltages from the stator. The procedure for checking the rectifier/regulator and stator start on page 57 of this manual-

Changing the fuel filter is very cheap insurance too.
