I am looking at an ATK. I did a little searching, but I am a little short on time and didn't find the answer to my question as quick as I anticipated (I can usually search this site and find the answer to most all of my questions). Maybe I didn't look in the right spot. Anyway, I need to know what updates were made by ATK if any. Thanks.

Shannon.

Everything should be pretty good, except that there is no z400 bearing in the crank. I'm not sure if they do the motor mount update or not? I'm assuming they do? But from what I've read, they don't build too bad of a motor, just that its a Cannondale factory crank. unsure.gif

They also don't pay attention to the depth of the drill mark on the piston's sleeve.

Thanks for the quick info. The motor mount update isn't a big deal as I can add that in short order. As for the crank bearing, I'll have to check and see if that has been done to this quad.

Happyboy- can you elaborate a bit on the drill mark on the piston sleeve, or maybe point me to another thread that gives me some more info. Thanks and sorry for the trouble.

I just spent most of this last weekend "updating" a new ATK. PM or call for the details.

The manufacturer of the aluminum piston sleeves for the original Cannondale factory sleeves (of which ATK has a bunch) drilled the mark used to denote the exhaust side on some of the cylinder sleeves too deep (not all of them). Most all piston makers & sleeve makers mark one side of the piston or sleeve to denote the exhaust side. The maker of the sleeves used a drill mark in the very top edge on the side of the sleeve to make this mark. The "good" ones have a small dimple where only the point of the drill made the mark. The others are drilled deeper where the sides of the dimple are now seen (hence deeper). This has proven to lead to premature cracking of the sleeve due to very little material left over between the dimple and the upper o-ring that seals to the head. The mark should look like this: ^ instead of a point and the sides: =>. Hope this helps.

The biggest update is to assemble the engine with locktite. That right there will stop the majority of early failures. Which is most important to get the engine through their 30 day warranty period.

I think Walmart's return policy is longer than that. ph34r.gif
