Exhaust pipe mounting

I recently put on a full FMF Ti exhaust system. My bracket that is attached to the pipe does not line up with the bracket off the frame. Is this normal? If so, I'll just make a bracket.

No, that should line right up. You need to line everything up correctly, then put bolts through the holes, and then slowly tighten everything. Wistech can provide the proper tightening order for those, I forget what it is.

Yes, what a pain. The exhaust nuts are not fun taking on and off. I'll be anal and fix it the right way, but I really want to put a bracket in there

I have a ride this week. I want it looking in tip top shape.

Even installed per OEM, there are too many stress cracks on Titanium headers, and damage around that bracket is too common. You can do some things to secure it without strain, and dampen it at the same time -- that would be worthwhile, since those headers are no longer made.

I suggest some form of rubber mounting system, a semi floating formation, so that the header is mounted, but floats during subframe vibrations.

It is possible that the headpipe was made for a Walsh 250r kit but I have never heard of it. It may also just be bent or you don't have it bolted to the head square. Anyways Ti pipes need to be bolted as stress free as possible. First bolt the headpipe flanges down then shim and space the frame mount to where ever it wants to be without bending it anywhere. That will break and crack it for sure. After the headpipe is on then mount the can and shimmed so it is also not forcing the pipe anywhere.
That pipe you have is so far off on the mount that if the can has to be mounted low as well and it will most likely hit the axle. Then its time to reform the header back to stock.

Okay, tonight I will unbolt the pipe from the head and try to resquare the pipe. Wistech, are you saying if the pipe bracket doesn't completely line up with the frame bracket then shim it. More less don't force the pipe in a position that it doesn't want to go, given that it's delicate.

Yep if it wants to be 1/4 inch from the bracket don't tighten it up till it bends to meet the bracket. Titanium is super strong, but a tad brittle the way they built the brackets. Dealing with repairing them I have seen many different bracket designs on the Ti pipes.

I fixed the mounting issue. I was able to get the exhaust bracket to line correctly with the bracket off the frame.

What I did to fix it was I loosened up all of the nuts that mount the pipe to the head. Once the pipe was loose I was able to line up the pipe and pass a bolt through the bracket. However, this caused the pipe to be a bit offset sitting at the head. I tightened up all the nuts at the head and the pipe seemed okay. It wasn't stressed or under much pressure. It just needed a little tlc.
