I was told that a 400ex axle would fit in a cannondale just as long you change the seal on sprocket hub side of the carrier with a 400ex one. Is this true. thanks
I tried this about two years ago. Except I slid a 250r axle into the Dale carrier. The axle fit into the bearing carrier as far as the diameter and width were concerned, but the problem was the sprocket hub and brake hub. Neither hub fit correctly.
Right, you would have to use your stock locknut hub. As for the sprocket hub you would have to use honda 400ex seals for the honda sprocket hub. The bearing are the same as a 400ex's but the seal are not. So if you change the seal it sould work I think.
Well the problem that I ran into was the offset of the sprocket hub. The Cannondale sprocket hub sits close to the bearing carrier. The Honda units are much further away from the bearing carrier. That is how the Honda unit can have the chain adjustment in between the sprocket hub and the swingarm. Unlike the Cannondale which has the adjustment in the side of the carrier due to lack of space.
LOL Actually I think that 250r and 400ex sprocket hubs are the same. A 250r axle can be used in a 400ex and everything lines up. The only difference that I am aware of is the number of splines for the wheel hubs. The 250r has 25 and the 400ex has 24.
