Aftermarket Steering Stems
D 14 Meeting
John,
Any idea when the D-14 meeting to set next years schedule is? Myself and a few of the CC riders would like to attend, to try to talk a few more owners into holding races.
Thanks, Mike

Hey Guys, thanks for all the info. Now i'm wondering if all the aftermarket stems lower the tabs at the bottom of the stem. or if some are just stronger than the stock one? anyone know? I'm not gonna buy one cause "it looks really strong" or cause it's chrome, I really don't care about these things, I just want to make my quad handle better. Anyway thanks again for the feedback, It's good to know we have some really knowledgable people here.
Steering Stems:
I don't know how everyone makes their steering stems, but if you didn't already know it, the stock stem is made of 4130 Chromoly, which is WAY better than any of the stock stems made by any of the other factories. In fact, it makes buying a replacement stem kind of pointless if you were just wanting a different material hoping to get something stronger. There is another thing to consider as well. Remember that any vehicle (including your quad) is designed as a total package. How each part works has a huge effect on the other parts of the vehicle. The stock steering stem on the Cannondale is the same way. It was designed for an exact load and purpose, and to change that can have negative effects on other parts of the quad. What I am saying is that it would certainly be possible to make a stem that would never bend as you would like, but unfortunately it would transmit those loads to other parts of the quad like the frame. That means you could destroy a frame to save a stem. I know what I would rather replace. If they designed the stem and built it out of a certain size chromoly, then to change that in an effort to make it stronger could be a very costly mistake. Always protect the expensvie parts (in this case the frame) with the cheaper ones (the stem). Just my thoughts.

Mike, in case "Johnny 9" doesn't get back to you, the D14 meeting is the first full weekend in December (7th and 8th). One thing you may like to know, Jack Pine Motorcycle Club is putting in for 2 CC's next year! it is an awesome place from what I hear, will really need to hit them up hard also.
see you at the meeting.

As for your steering stem question, run the stocker till you bend it, if you can, then, buy another stocker, cannondale parts are not very expensive.
Stering Stem?
So let me get this straight.I could get a 03 stem and bolt it right up to my 02.It also has the moto front end on it.I have had my
rod ends hit the frame before.
Thanks Mike
