Engine blown already?
Engine blown already?
Saturday we went riding at my friends farm and that evening i got on my quad and it cranked over very slowly like the battery was dead and it wouldnt start (it had only been sitting for 5min). So we pushed it and it started right up ran for 30 seconds and died. Tried pushing it again and it would just slide the tires even in 5th gear. I assumed the motor was locked up. I then hooked up jumper cables and it started again but was running horribly and died then nothing. Took it home hooked up the battery charger. Fully charged the starter just hums really loud. I pulled the clutch basket and all the bolt are still in place and it will roll fine in neutral. The motor has 7 cross country races and about 30 hours of riding, so probably low 40's total. I pulled the motor for the first time and am going to tear into it this weekend. Oh yeah and the engine oil and tranny oil had no shavings and didnt smell burnt. Any one have any clue what the problem could be?
Right now I am at college in Morgantown (5 miles from Pa) the bike is at my parents house in parsons 60 miles south. It definitely seems like something solid is stopping the whole engine from moving. But the problem did seem like it could be electrical at first, I just don??????????????????t see how a loose connection would make the engine seem locked up (I would be very happy if it was though).
I have the engine out already so I could maybe go get it Wednesday after class (or pop the side cover off, if it would be an easy problem to diagnose). I am pretty well broke now though, so I was really hoping to find out what is wrong now and fix it this winter. Also I haven??????????????????t done the stud update yet and was wondering if it would be necessary since nothing has came loose yet.
oh, okay. Well you'll have to remove the side cover, and then take off the valve cover. Once you get that apart, check with an engine manual to see if everything looks like it's in place. Once you have her apart, I'd do the stud update. Once you tear into her, give us a call, I should be able to tell you what to look for and help ya get her back up and runnin.
