Modify the stock arms

#1 Post by Happyboy »

smile.gif I am thinking red. And then gonna throw on some heavy duty heims that won't need lube and should be all set. Throw on = drill mount hole out a little, insert 4140 steel core and weld, then drill back out to 3/4 and thread then install new heims.

my vote would be red, please post some pic when you are done i was debating on doing that this winter, buying some eyeball engineering ball joints and making a bushing and having adjustable font end, looks good so far.

I actually have changed my mind on what I am going to do. I am adding the top arms to my project now and am going to extend them out to a +1 arm. We are drilling out the entire existing ball joint pipe and inserts a new solid 4140 chromoly rod. Then going to cut it off at like 1" out and weld that bad boy back around like the stock one was. Then drill it out to 3/4 thread 16 pitch. The side walls will be just over 3/8", so strength should not be an issue. If there are any fab guys out there that see this as just a horribly bad idea and see failure in my future please speak up.

I am putting in 3/4 3/4x16 thread chromoly ball joints. The same ones that are on ASR's site. They run $50 for each joint (includes the pin and taper). Those are going on the bottoms and a cheaper one is going on the top.

And RED is what they are going to be. Now I just have to get some kickars happyboy decals made up for the fronts.

Thats my boy. Im so proud. If you got good penatration on the welds it should be fine.
Before you powdercoat you might want to test ride them fo a couple days a least to make sure it feels right.

We used a 200amp welder and that thing was smoking! I am pretty sure we got good welds. I am going to go ahead and get them powdercoated on monday, then ride them. I have multiple items getting done and I have to get those in monday, so....no time for testing.

what brand of hiem joints are those? is there any way you could just cut the stockers off, and tap out the remaining hole? looks great, a lot cheaper that buying after market.
