Shock questions

#1 Post by mydreamride »

Im getting ready to buy a rear shock and I can't decide if the stock Ohlins is better than all the fox rear shocks I see are. Can you give me any input on which is actually better. Also Will Blaze shocks fit on Cannibal A-arms?

You know what is funny about that question, you will never and can't get an answer... meaning

people have different ridding styles and likes!!! So you will get half saying that they swear by one brand and the other have swearing by the other brand.

Now, if you ask the question who makes a better shock, I was looking at this manf. shock model "X"? People can answer that question.

Do a search for shocks and read all the pre post.. you will never get a def answer..

Just my thoughts.. I have seen people go down this road asking the same question.

Maybe I'm not reading right but it looks to me like he is asking if the ohlins is better than the fox. If that is what you're asking....the ohlins is definitely better than the fox shocks. Now if you're asking if the ohlins is just as good as any other brand such as tcs, elka, axis, ...etc, thats a preference.

I believe the fox has no rebound adjustment. That normally makes it a cheaper shock $ wise.Hoses like the Fox has also like to break.Like cdembek says though you might like the Fox better depending on what type of riding you do.I will say this a Fox shock is easier to work on and get parts for.

I have a fox rear and it sucks. There is nothing good about it...stock anyway. It only has preload adjustment and feels like a pogo stick bolted in there. Its either bottoming out or bouncing on the landing. I strongly discourage the stock fox rear.

I like the stock ohlins from my moto. Tooth&Nail has them now, maybe he can give you some input. I sold them to him to buy elkas and now I'm going back to ohlins.

ran on ohlins for a year, and then rebuilt it with an elka spring/ssd

worked great!!smile.gif

Funny the shock guy I work with is just as qualified to work on shocks as anyone else he is a race tech certified shock technician. He is also going to be Elka certified just becuase you are mad that I wont send my shock to propilot dont mean you have to bad mouth me and the guy that rebuilds my shocks I was trying to figure out why my ohlins was leaking and you are bad mouthing me becuase I dont want to spend 225 buck on an ohlins shock that i have already dumped 350 bucks into. Funny that you are bad mouthing me and I didnt do anything to you.

Jacob, I think all Racer101 was trying to convey to you in the other thread in his own sweet way was that the shock guy you used may not be as good as you think. Lots of other places rebuild the ohlins and have no problems with the seals or the pressure but this guy only put it at 175 and said the seals suck as a way of having an excuse for the leak.

He may have done a great job in other areas but he just screwed this one up.
