The 2001's and before had a small square like box that was the 500 ecu's which did not have the ability to change maps... there was a mil tool that you could use to adjust the air fuel ratio and such but that was about it. Most of the 02's and beyond had the s-1000 ecu which was more rectangular and you would use the D&M kit on and adjust nearly anything and change maps. You cannot really go by the year of something these days as alot were swapped, changed or updated in part due to the rampant parting out that has gone on and continues today.
